We are delighted ot welcome back Malcolm Garrett, Creative Director at AIG: Applied Information Group.
Professor Malcolm Garrett RDI FRSA
Malcolm Garrett is Creative Director at AIG (Applied Information Group), London. A communications designer with three decades of experience, including over fifteen years working in interactive media, his work is widely regarded as having a seminal influence on the development of contemporary UK graphic design.
He founded the interactive communications company AMX in 1994, which under his creative leadership won awards for creativity, business effectiveness, and technical excellence, across a range of disciplines from internet to interactive TV to handheld computing. Prior to AMX Malcolm had founded and co-directed Assorted Images, designing for artists such as Buzzcocks, Duran Duran, Culture Club, Simple Minds, and pioneering digital and interactive work with Peter Gabriel. In 2003/4 Malcolm joined Immersion Studios in Toronto to develop interfaces for interactive cinema and collaborative learning software, and returned to the UK in 2005 to join AIG.
He is a Royal Designer for Industry, was nominated for the Prince Philip Designers Prize in 1998, and is a Visiting Professor at the University of the Arts London. He has judged many awards including Design Week, D&AD, BAFTA, BIMA.

Jane Pluer, Pentagram

After leaving her native Germany, Jane studied at both Falmouth School of Art & Design and The University of Wales, College Newport; graduating with a first class honours degree in graphic design. She joined Pentagram Design in 1998 and has since worked on a broad range of projects including Bulgari Hotel and Resorts, The Israel Museum, Jerusalem, Faber & Faber, Boots, JP Morgan and Hewlett-Packard. Jane was appointed as an Associate Partner in Pentagram's London office in 2007.
Mark Hurst, MWO

Mark Hurst graduated from the University of Central Lancashire with a degree in Graphic Design in 1992 and founded C3 Creative Partnership before joining The Chase in Manchester as a Senior Designer.
In 1996 he became an Art Director at Bartle Bogle Hegarty creating press, TV and Levi's 'Eye Candy' internet advertising before taking a year out to direct commercials. He worked as an Art Director at OgilvyOne creating direct mail campaigns before joining McCann-Erickson where as a Creative Director he wrote and launched numerous TV campaigns including Bacardi Breezer 'Tomcat' and Magnum '5 Senses'.
In 2005 he left McCanns to help relaunch UnitedHHCL, winning the Masterfoods 'Tracker' business and creating the Food Standards Agency S**T campaign.
In 2007 he joined Albion as a Group Head creating fully integrated international campaigns for Ebay, Betfair and BlackBerry.
He is currently working at MWO in London
Mark is the recipient of numerous awards including:

Ben Stott, NB Studio

Ben has over sixteen years experience in the design industry, including over four years at international design consultancy Pentagram. In 1997 he established independent design consultancy NB Studio with Nick Finney and Alan Dye.
As a partner at NB Studio Ben has worked for a wide range projects for clients including; Channel 4, D&AD, INSEAD, Knoll, Soho House and The Tate Gallery.
NB Studio has been published and profiled in numerous international design magazines. Their work has featured in several travelling exhibitions and is held in the permanent collection at the V&A.
They have won wide recognition with for their work with D&AD, Design Week awards, Design Week Benchmarks, International society of Typographic Designers, the American Art Directors Club, Tokyo Art Directors Club and the Creative Review Annual.
Ben has also judged at the D&AD Professional and Student Awards, the Fresh Awards and the Canadian Design and Advertising Awards.
Ian McFarlane, Spin
Ian Macfarlane graduated from Lancashire Polytechnic in 1991 with a 1st class honours degree and D&AD student award.

Phil Griffin, Spoken Image
Phil Griffin is a freelance writer, broadcaster and curator specialising in architecture and urban issues. He writes for a number of architecture journals including Building Design and AJ. In 2006 he curated the exhibition Every Cloud: Ten years after the Manchester Bomb at Urbis. He was a consultant and contributor to How We Built Britain: Liverpool on BBC 1. In 2005 he curated This City Wall a photographic record by Len Grant of the railway viaduct from Piccadilly to Pamona. This is installed on Platform 12 of Piccadilly Station, Manchester. He has worked on schemes with Urban Splash, Alsop Architects, Ian Simpson Architects, Aedas, Studio Egret West and Austin-Smith: Lord. He was creative consultant to Salford and Manchester City Councils in the first stage Lottery proposal for Irwell City Park.
Phil Griffin was born in Ancoats and has lived in Manchester all his life.
Charlie Hussey, Sutherland Hussey Architects

Born 1962, he studied architecture at the Mackintosh School of Architecture. From 1987 he joined the office of Sir James Stirling, leaving in 1994 to work briefly for Renzo Piano in Italy, before returning to Scotland to establish the practice Sutherland Hussey Architects in Edinburgh.
Hannah Lawson, Director, John McAslan & Partners

Biography
Hannah Lawson joined John McAslan + Partners in 2001 from the Newcastle based practice Faulkner Brown. She was made a Director in
2005. Hannah leads Unit 3, with co-Director Murray Smith, specialising in Culture and Education projects. The Unit concentrates on working in the public realm and with end-user clients, where significant consultation is an essential part of the
creative process. Hannah has a particular interest in sustainability and environmentally responsive design.

Craigmillar Community High School and Public Library, Edinburgh (2007- onwards) A £30 million scheme forming the focus to regeneration efforts in Craigmillar, Edinburgh

United World College of East Africa, Kenya (2006 – onwards)
Designs provide 10,000 sqm of academic and residential accommodation for 200 pre-university students in Kenya’s Rift Valley region. Proposals are driven by strong environmental aspirations.

Harris Academy, Bermondsey (2005-2008)
Proposals for new teaching accommodation for 1,150 pupils on the site of the Aylwins Girls School, including remodeling and refurbishment of existing buildings, improved sports facilities and landscaping.

A new 10,000 sqm academy building for 1,350 pupils on the site of the Stanley Technical High School for Boys. Works include refurbishment of the original Grade II listed building.

Lavender Sure Start Children’s Centre, London
(2003 – 2005)
A 1000 sqm nursery and community center providing a new facility for children and their parents. The café provides the hub for new internal and external amenities. The scheme is part of the Government’s Sure Start Programme.
