When it comes to creativity, Nottingham is firmly on the international map. Nottingham is home to Sir Paul Smith and film director Shane Meadows, and oozes creative facilities and attractions such as Broadway Media Centre — a flagship independent cinema and production house, and Lakeside Arts Centre and the exciting new Centre for Contemporary Arts — one of the largest contemporary art galleries in England set to open during Autumn 2008.

 

Creativity is one thing, but Nottingham’s also got the commitment needed to ensure creative ideas are developed into successful businesses to play a key role in our local economy. Creative Nottingham is a collaborative effort that involves the cultivation of creative businesses in the city and the projection of talent onto an international marketplace.

 

The independent Comedia Report on creative businesses in the East Midlands (2003) showed that Nottingham hosts around half of all the creative industries and jobs in the region’s main centres. Since then, the concentration and diversity of creative businesses in the city has continued to grow — with a national and international reputation to match.

 

Companies from outside the sector are now realising that they can come to Nottingham, put down roots and take advantage of the city’s creative strengths and rich cultural fabric.
