Architecture Lifetime Achievement Award
Dick Cannon and Tom Elder are a creative pairing with a very particular appreciation of time and place but who also readily evolve ideas and materials to maintain the practices hard won position as a contemporary paragon.
Founders of eponymous practice Elder + Cannon in 1980, the pair even in retirement continue to serve as consultants, ensuring the practice reaps the benefit of continuity and remains rooted to the notion that the nature of our surroundings directly impinges upon each of our lives.
Cannon once said that his greatest satisfaction in work was when genuinely satisfying his clients – but to do that whilst simultaneously articulating robust architecture. Few would dispute that the practice have done anything other than exceed those exacting self imposed standards.
This guiding principle has percolated through the practice’s work in more recent years with a litany of lauded work ranging from Castlemilk Stables, expertly crafted by practice director Tom Connolly and with the recent unveiling of Trongate 103.
