Agency Agony Uncle
England & Wales
The Drum's very own Uncle Carl answers your questions
Missing MDs, agency re-structures, digital investment and client and agency chemistry meetings are just some of the issues that blight the lives of you agency folk. Fortunately wise old Uncle Carl, ex-JDA chairman, is on hand to set all of your minds at rest.
Dear Uncle Carl,
My MD has been put on some kind of temporary leave while they decide whether to make him redundant and our biggest account has been put up for review. Are such actions usually followed by wholesale changes and should we be worried?
Time to brush off the dusty old CV I think. Poor old MD, the brown stuff must have really hit the cooling machinery for him to go off and garden - my money is on the fact that you won’t be seeing him again - not until his new break-away agency is announced in this very magazine no doubt!
Your biggest account is up for review... makes me wonder which came first - client seeing the MD was ushered out the back door and thinking “sod that, he’s the main man, we are calling a pitch”, or the agency owners seeing their main account was up for pitch and thinking “sod that, that’s our main account, where’s the feckin’ MD? Open the back door!”
Either way, it sounds like lunchtime job surfing will be rife unless someone in ‘management’ gets to their feet and talks to the staff before you all start ‘blogging’ and writing to magazines... don’t you just love agency life?
