Niagara rises
Eddie Friel, the man behind Glasgow’s reinvention as a tourism hotspot, is now passing on his wisdom to the state of New York, helping Buffalo and Niagara to turn around ailing fortunes. Noel Young spoke to Friel about the lessons Glasgow can teach stateside.
Tourism is king in Niagara Falls, one of America’s most iconic visitor destinations. But behind the spectacular scenery is an industrial hinterland that has hit hard times in the 21st century.
Now they have turned to Eddie Friel, for more than 20 years a key figure in the great Glasgow revival, for advice on fixing the area’s jobs problems.
