Mick Carter, previously marketing director at Jazz FM and head of broadcast at JWT, is back in Manchester after the collapse of media barter operation MRI.
Carter, who as European account director was at the helm of the multimillion-pound Levi’s account, has returned to re-establish his own media-creative “go-between” agency, Get Carter. He has also been working with sponsorship/naming rights specialist Sportacus, and has now joined the firm at board level.
MRI went into liquidation last month, apparently leaving media owners with trade credits totalling millions that are now effectively worthless. However, Carter himself has not lost faith in barter, and has forged links with former MRI rival Active International in the hope of “bringing sports sponsorship and barter together.”
Speaking of his work with Sportacus, he said, “We’ve got some huge things in the pipeline. At the moment we’re just waiting for the ink to dry on a stadium deal between a football club and a big northwest client. There are a lot of opportunities out there and the time is right to exploit them.”
