New arts Festival paper launches

The Edinburgh Festival sees the launch of a new three times weekly arts and entertainment newspaper, Fest.
The paper hopes to reach 360,000 readers during August, over half the total visitors to the festival. Founded by young entrepreneurs Dan Lerner and Helen Pidd, Fest is aiming to buck the current media downturn, with backing already secured from London’s arts and entertainment magazine, Time Out, Forth Radio and easyInternet. The newspaper has also struck a deal with the Independent to distribute 2,000 copies within the Saturday editions of the paper. The magazine will launch on 5 August and is to be edited by its founders, Lerner and the Herald’s student journalist of the year, Pidd.
