Bosses at Paisley-based radio station 96.3Q FM are denying radio industry rumours that the station has made a raft of redundancies in its programming and sales departments.
Speculation has suggested that the station’s on-air presenting staff had been cut to just two, both working five-hour shifts to cover breakfast and drive time, but this was vehemently denied by the station.
A spokeswoman for The Wireless Group, which also owns talkSPORT, said: “We are making a number of changes here and at our other smaller regional radio stations. We do not just have two presenters at Q FM. Like all other radio stations, we use freelance presenters to add to what we already have.”
96.3 Q FM and Wave 102 in Dundee are the only Scottish stations owned by The Wireless Group since the company sold Scot FM to the Guardian Media Group last year.
The Wireless Group also owns smaller regional radio stations in England, which include The Pulse, Signal One and Wish FM.
96.3Q FM was launched in September 1992 by the Independent Radio Group, which sold the station to The Wireless Group around four years ago as part of a package which included Scot FM and Wave 102.
Wave was launched in Dundee in August 1999 as Discovery, but it was forced to change its name by Satellite TV channel Discovery after a drawn-out court battle.
Ashley MacKenzie, managing director of Wireless Group’s ILRs, was unavailable to comment as The Drum went to press.
