Saga radio names quirk as station’s Scottish boss

Saga Radio has appointed one of Scottish Ballet’s leading executives, Norman Quirk, to take on the role of managing director of the newly created Glasgow-based station.
Quirk, who was previously managing director of Scot FM, will leave the Scottish Ballet in March to take on the new role.
The station, which will aim to reach 1.5m listeners, will gear its service towards the over-50 market, after winning the FM Glasgow licence against stiff competition.
Saga fended off bids from Scottish Radio Holdings, Virgin, Capital and a number of locally based consortia to win the lucrative rights to broadcast a new station in Glasgow.
Ron Coles, director of Saga Radio, said of the appointment: “I am pleased that we have secured the services of such an experienced radio executive, whose knowledge spans the life of the industry in Scotland.”
