Navyblue has been chosen to design the 2012 Olympic bid document for London, business worth an estimated £500,000.
The consultancy was awarded the project after a five-way pitch against a number of English and internationally-based design companies. Navyblue will have to complete the London bid, which will encompass the Olympic and Paralympic Games, by 15 November, when it is to be handed to the International Olympic Committee.
London is one of five cities bidding for the 2012 Olympics, along with Paris, Madrid, New York and Moscow. The winner will be named in July 2005.
Navyblue previously worked on the Scotland and Ireland bid for the 2008 European Championship, and this experience is believed to have been a deciding factor in the London Olympic win.
“The breadth and complexity of sports bidding combined with ‘drop dead’ timings is something in which we have been shown to excel,” commented Douglas Alexander, joint managing director of Navyblue Design Group. “This project represents its own challenge: to balance the drive and commitment required to ensure a delivered bid with the creative and strategic thinking needed to create a winning bid. We look forward to working on, and successfully delivering, this challenge.”
The announcement coincides with a visit to Scotland by the bid’s communications director, Mike Lee, to meet the Scottish Executive and other agencies about how the benefits of a successful London bid will be spread throughout the UK.
“The success of Navyblue is an indication of how Scottish companies are already taking advantage of the commercial opportunities that the bid offers,” explained Lee. “There is the potential for Scotland to host training camps and pre-Olympic events, including the cultural programme – not to mention the wider business and tourism benefits.”
