Pixel House plan to appeal over ruling by ASA against retouching ad

Family and the Pixel House have announced that they are to appeal a decision by the Advertising Standards Authority that upheld a complaint against an ad they created for the Pixel House, which appeared in The Drum earlier this year.
The ad was inspired by The Mirror’s fake Iraqi prisoner abuse picture controversy and led to one letter of complaint to the ASA.
The ASA ruled: "That the image of a soldier urinating on a hooded man depicted an act of abuse and humiliation and was likely to offend some readers."
The appeal will be supported by The Drum. Said publisher Gordon Young, "We normally support the ASA but on this occasion we do not feel they took either the context or the medium in which this ad appeared properly into account.
"This picture did not show Iraqi prisoner abuse. However, it was the defining image of a major media controversy that led to the departure of a high profile newspaper editor.
