BT Broadband and internet radio station Radio Magnetic are joining forces to find the next stars of the Scottish music scene.
The country’s first unsigned download chart will give Scotland’s best emerging talent the chance to get their music heard by an online audience of more than 150,000 listeners. The fortnightly chart, that will launch on April 18, will be presented on Radio Magnetic at 5pm on Mondays.
With Scottish acts such as Franz Ferdinand, Mylo, Snow Patrol, Joseph Malik, Idlewild and Dogs Die In Hot Cars ruling the airwaves, the time is thought to be right to launch the chart.
The programme will showcase the best emerging talent from colleges, schools and music venues. Garage bands, bedroom producers and wannabe rockers will all be able to submit their unsigned and self-released content for consideration.
The selected tracks will be hosted on Radio Magnetic for people to listen to, with new tracks being added continually. Listeners can then vote for their favourite track to determine the order of the chart show.
The show will be hosted John Clarke, a music journalist who has written for a number of publications, including the Evening Times, The List and the Scotsman.
The chart will culminate in a final event, which will see the best acts performing in front of a live audience. The winner will win time in a professional recording studio. Listeners who vote will also have the opportunity of winning MP3 players, digital radios and other electronic goods.
