Scottish Media Group is looking to develop Scottish Television’s online presence with the appointment of an e-commerce director.
Andrew Windsor joined the company at the beginning of the month from travel website lastminute.com, where he had continued to build his online experience after forming an e-commerce website for travel company Thomas Cook, thomascooktravel.com.
“We’re delighted to welcome Andrew to SMG Television,” said Scottish Media Group managing director Bobby Hain. “He will bring fresh ideas and vision to this new exciting part of the business.”
Windsor added: “It’s great to be joining SMG at a time when digital technology is offering so many new opportunities. I look forward to developing SMG’s e-commerce initiatives in what is a challenging and exciting media landscape.”
The appointment comes weeks after a company-wide staff meeting at Scottish Media Group during which the company announced that it will cut 59 jobs in the coming months.
The announcement, made just before Christmas, came as a surprise to many in the Scottish industry after SMG television channels Scottish Television and Grampian had enjoyed a strong year in both revenues and audience figures. Later this year the company is scheduled to relocate to purpose-built premises at Glasgow’s Pacific Quay development.
Job cuts are expected in several departments including on-air presenters as well as production and technical staff. Both the National Union of Journalists and broadcast union Bectu have spoken out against the cuts.
SMG is currently in a consultation process with staff, which is due to last until February.
