Glorious Creative, the Manchester-based design consultancy launched last year by the design team behind Mat:Designers, has been appointed to design the new quality newspaper, launched by Insider founder Nick Jaspan, following a four-way pitch.
The consultancy is undertsood to have won the pitch following a presentation that pitted them against agencies including The Chase and AWAMAP.
The weekly newspaper, which, as revealed last month in Adline, has the working title of The Examiner is due to launch in the spring. The paper will be based in Manchester covering the entire North West. The 72-page publication will target AB readers.
Jaspan along with editor Robert Woodhouse and sales director Chris Candish are understood to have raised £1 million to launch what is being billed as the UK’s ‘first regional weekly’. The three are currently speaking to a number of editorial and sales staff with a view to filling positions in the forthcoming weeks.
It is understood that Glorious has been briefed with creating the masthead, fonts and layout of the main paper, the three supplements and also the style of the website.
Mark Ross, creative partner said of the appointment: \"It’s long been an ambition of Tom and mine to work on a serious newspaper. It’s incredibly rare that these opportunities come along.
\"We want to create a quality paper that people admire and appreciate.\"
Scott McCubbin, managing partner added: \"It’s an excellent win for us. It’s an exciting project to be involved in from the start.\"
