Executive adds to advertorial list and keeps Record

The Scottish Executive has extended its advertorial contract with The Daily Record while Real Radio has also been brought onboard, stealing a chunk of Emap’s allocation.
The Daily Record’s contract, thought to be worth around £1m, was renewed, despite Roger Williams, marketing director at The Scottish Executive admitting that The Scottish Sun was now also an attractive prospect and that he would be interested to find a way to include it in the future.
He also considered adding The Scotsman, but felt that its readers were not in the relevant target audience.
Other media outlets benefiting for the deal include STV, The Big Issue, the Sunday Herald’s supplement, ‘Fresh’ and around 180 local newspapers through a deal with the Scottish Newspaper Publishers Association.
The advertorial budget is worth in total between £1.5 and £2m, with new subjects for this year expected to include a campaign to battle racism following the Glasgow airport attack; street prostitution and the raise of the legal age to buy cigarettes.
