Mere to launch celebratory coin for Liverpool as part of Capital of Culture celebrations

Mere PR has been appointed to launch a specially commissioned coin to commemorate Liverpool’s 800-year anniversary and its status as European Capital of Culture 2008.

The coin collection has been commissioned by The London Mint Office, and the Cheshire-based PR company is said to be finalising a number of stunts in Liverpool to generate interest in it among the city’s residents.

Tony Tighe, CEO of Mere PR, remained tight-lipped of exact plans but said: \"The campaign will combine a range of methods, as we are targeting both Liverpool residents and coin collectors all over the UK.”

The coins are expected to be crafted to depict elements of the city’s heritage in areas such as culture, transport, architecture and sport.

Earlier this month, Mere was appointed to handle PR for national sports retailer JJB Sports. The agency is tasked with implementing bespoke PR campaigns to launch new and refurbished stores, raise awareness of existing sites and provide ongoing support to raise the profile of the retailer. Everton and Scotland footballer James McFadden has been signed up to help relaunch the brand.
