Industry pays tribute to BJL co-founder Lorains

Nicky Unsworth, who succeeded Lorains as MD at BJL in 2006, paid tribute to the man who helped shape her career. “Trevor was a true friend and mentor – he touched everyone who worked with him and will be sadly missed,” she said.

Michael Barrington, who was a friend and colleague for over 30 years at JWT, then BJL, said: “Trevor was a lovely family man and a BJL man. He had a rare combination of warmth, enthusiasm, intelligence and integrity. I have lost a true friend and the industry has lost a star.”

Lorains started his advertising career at Manchester’s JWT, where he worked with Michael Barrington and Stephen Johnson. The trio left to launch BJL in 1987. With Lorains at the helm, the agency has continued to go from strength to strength and is now one of the country’s most successful independent agencies.
Lorains is survived by wife Annette and two daughters, Nicki and Claire.
