Rock Radio prepares for North East roll-out

Media / England & Wales

GMG Radio is launching a dedicated digital rock music station in the North East this spring.

Rock Radio, launching on April 1, will broadcast classic rock music on the North East MXR digital multiplex and will have the potential to reach two million listeners across the region.

The station, aimed at the 35+ market, will broadcast a wide mix of rock music from its Gateshead base, including artists such as Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones and U2.

This is the group’s second station to launch under the Rock Radio brand after its sister station in Glasgow began back in January 2007. A third Rock Radio will launch in Greater Manchester in May.

John Myers, chief executive of GMG Radio, said: We’re looking forward to expanding the brand into the north-east where we’re sure there will be a very receptive audience.”

Full details of presenters, programming and launch date will be announced in the coming months.
