The Gate and Barkers win census pitch

Two Government roster agencies have won accounts to promote Scotland’s next census in 2011.

The Governments creative advertising and PR framework agencies were invited to pitch for the contracts, which saw The Gate appointed to work on the creative advertising, while Barkers was awarded the PR contract.

The campaign will have a total publicity budget of £1.5million, spanning from April 2008 until March 2011. The budget will also include media buying, audience research and print, with the bulk of spend expected in the final year.

Within that budget, £450,000 has been reserved for creative, while £200,000 is the PR budget, including agency fees as well as production costs, insight gathering and further costs.

Both agencies will look to begin work for the rehearsal census which will go out early next year.

A General Register of Scotland spokesperson said; “Communicating with every household in Scotland is a big challenge. We chose the proposals that demonstrated a detailed strategic understanding of the tasks ahead, the issues involved and the experience that the agency staff have in working on other campaigns with mass and multiple audiences.”
