40 more job cuts on the horizon at newsquest

Newsquest which publishes The Herald and Evening Times is seeking 40 voluntary redundancies which would include 20 editorial posts – with the rest coming from across the company.

In response to queries about the cuts, the company issued a press statement saying it is aiming to redeploy resource “to create one of the world’s most modern multi-media news operations.”

A comment from Tim Blott, MD of the Herald & Times Group, said: “We will be discussing with our staff and trade unions the effects of these changes but I am confident that – combined with Scotland’s number one internet company s1 – the Herald & Times Group is well-equipped for a successful future.”

The redundancies will be controversial. Last summer, staff at the newspaper walked out on strike following a round of redundancies at the company.
Meanwhile, Newsquest is set to launch a combined website for both The Herald and Sunday Herald later this month.
