London meeting for creative industry figures

A meeting was held in Westminster last week to discuss Scotland’s creative industries which was intended to allow the UK Government to hear the views from representatives from the sector on current issues and challenges.

The meeting, which was chaired by David Cairns MP, included discussions on the how to increase the level of independent TV commissioning in Scotland, developing and maintaining talent and the need to ensure that Scottish broadcasters develop programming for the whole of the UK and beyond.

12 MP’s, including John Maxton from the House of Lords, representatives from SMG, Channel 4 and the BBC, as well as Paul Holleran from NUJ Scotland, independent programme maker Rob Noakes and creative director from IWC Media Hamish Barbour, also attended the discussions.

Subjects included talk of the BBC expanding its production into wider regions of the UK.
