XFM Scotland to become Galaxy Scotland

It has been announced that XFM is to rebrand as Galaxy as a major rebrand strategy undertaken by Global Radio.

Galaxy Scotland is expected to be on air before the end of the year.

In the latest RAJAR results*, the Galaxy UK network celebrated an increase in listening hours of 9.3% quarter on quarter, making a total of 18 million listening hours every week.

These figures follow the re-launch of the brand in April this year, featuring a new corporate identity that reflects Galaxy’s brand values moving forwards, targeting the 20 – 29 year old audience.

Richard Park, global radio’s executive director said; “Central Scotland can prepare itself to receive Britain’s fastest growing radio station aimed at young people and the prospect of the output from the Glasgow studios is an exciting one.”

About time. Xfm has been a programming mistake. The lesson being that you can't take on the BBC in 'breaking new music' or speech radio in a tsa of less than 8-10 million, so stick to what works. Beat 106 achieved c.440,000 weekly reach (opposed to Xfm's current c.210,000), and no reason why Galaxy won't achieve it again.
