Family 'buoyant' as it furiously refutes rumours of demise

Edinburgh agency Family has reacted furiously to rumours of its demise claiming that such allegations couldn't be further from the truth.

According to the agency, word was spreading through the Scottish marketing industry that Family had gone into receivership, even reaching some of the agency’s clients.

This ins ot the case, though, with the agency saying that it is ‘buoyant’.

This is not the first time in the last 12 months that such vicious rumours have circulated.

In a letter to The Drum, David Isaac, creative director for Family explained the situation.

Isaac said that he felt that the rumours were being spread in an attempt to take clients from the agency.

He revealed that the agency would soon be moving to a new office in Leith, and that both the joint ventures, Perfect Storm in partnership with Storm ID and Aunty Vera – in partnership with Creative Media Northern Ireland – were doing well.

As revealed in the previous issue of The Drum, Aunty Vera is currently working alongside Toy retailer Toymaster and Dublin shopping centre Dun Laoghaire.

Family itself has also recently been appointed as the marketing agency for Ocean Terminal.

The letter concluded “I love my job. I love creating effective work that makes a real difference to a client’s business. And I will continue doing great stuff for years to come. But if anyone wants to win new business off of us, please take us on in a pitch, fair and square – and we’ll wipe the floor with you absolutely big style.”

Having previously worked at family, I know the level of effort that goes into everything they do for their clients. They also possess the one quality that the rumour-mongers obviously don't - integrity.

Dear oh dear, what a pathetic way to try and win business. Either compete creatively or not at all.

Well played David.

If successful agencies are being subject to pernicious attempts to cause them damage and steal business it's a sad state of affairs.

If it is the case, those responsible must be struggling themselves, otherwise why resort to such childish, naive and unprofessional business tactics?
