The chairman of DBA Scotland has said that the possible loss of The Lighthouse – Scotland’s centre for architecture and design – would be a “backwards step” for UK design, following news that the centre may have to close as it faces a £300,000
The speculation follows the news – broken in The Drum – that funding for the Six City’s Design Festival, overseen by the Lighthouse, was to be scrapped under the SNP Government.
Keith Forbes, chairman of DBA Scotland, said: “The closure of The Lighthouse would be a major loss. Although there have been obvious problems, it is used to educate the public. If we take that away, it’s a backward step, especially when the creative industries sit among the few growth industries of the UK.”

Well I'm sorry to hear that the Lighthouse is in trouble, like Hamilton Accies I like that it's there although I seldom visit. Is it, I wonder that it's appeal just isn't broad enough. It is very heavily architecture biased and while I do enjoy good architecture I find the Lighthouse isn't representative of the creative industries as a whole. Variety is the spice of life but the endless stream of architecture related activities gives me little reason to visit.
