Design consultancy Uniform has recently  collaborated with photographer Mark McNulty and Liverpool University Press to produce a new book documenting McNulty’s highly acclaimed music photography.

For more than 20 years, McNutly has been photographing the music scene in and around Liverpool and its proliferation worldwide.

A case bound, hardback book, Pop Cultured: The Music Photography of Mark McNulty, displays shots from his portfolio featuring iconic pop culture figures such as The Who and Arctic Monkeys.

The book, which launched this month, combines McNulty’s images with his own laconic words, along with contributions from some of his musical subjects.

McNulty started out as a jobbing photographer covering events such as the Earthbeat festivals in Liverpool which would go on to witness breakthrough performances from notable artists such as The La’s and The Stone Roses.

As well as iconic bands, the book chronicles his shots from legendary nightclub Cream during the Acid House era, as well as featuring current Liverpool talent including The Zutons, Candie Payne and Ladytron.

While Liverpool is, of course, most famous for one internationally celebrated band, the city’s wider musical heritage has played an important role in shaping the culture of today.

McNulty has also been busy this year working alongside six other photographers to document Liverpool during its year as Capital of Culture. His shots will be published in a book next year called 0151 366 2008.
