Madonna has championed it and Jimmy Choo is set to make its stilettos with it, now a new website is to put Harris Tweed on the map as the once-iconic fabric is poised to make a comeback on the international fashion stage.

Since being inundated with demand for the traditional Scottish fabric following a fashion show in Paris in September, the brand designer for Harris Tweed Hebrides - Studio SP - has brought in web agency Basestation to help take Harris Tweed to international buyers.

The Edinburgh-based web design company worked with Studio SP to create a new site that aims to underpin Harris Tweed Hebrides as market leaders in textile innovation for the fashion industry.

Brian Wilson, chairman of Harris Tweed Hebrides, said: “Since our exciting new range was showcased at fashion shows in Paris and Tokyo we have been inundated with demand from leading fashion houses around the world. Cutting-edge fashion demands an equally cutting-edge approach to communicating our product and capabilities”

Paul Morris, director of Basestation, said: “This has been an enjoyable and fulfilling project.  It just goes to show that a well planned, strong website can link even the most remote and specialised businesses with a global audience. We are proud to have worked with Studio SP and Harris Tweed Hebrides to bring Scotland’s iconic fabric off the runway and onto the information super-highway.”
