Clothes retailer Matalan has appointed Code Computerlove as its digital agency and tasked the Manchester-based team with creating an ongoing digital marketing strategy.

Code was appointed following a four-way pitch and will launch an e-commerce pilot project as one of its first tasks for the retailer next week.

Matalan's marketing controller, Lee Pinnington, said: “We’re moving into an exciting new era for our digital activity and Code demonstrated that they have a detailed understanding of the online retail environment together with creative ability and huge enthusiasm.”

Code's managing director, Tony Foggett, was 'delighted' with the win. “[Matalan's] a hugely respected retailer whose customers are fiercely loyal and it’s great to be working alongside them to take their online presence to the next level,” he said.

Matalan sell both fashion and homeware products and promotes its prices as being 'up to half' as cheap as equivalents on the high street. It was founded 20 years ago and now has 190 stores.
