Bauer Radio Events and The Scottish Government have launched a new gig – Sound Science – for 16-18 year olds across Scotland.
The concert has been created as part of the Scottish Government’s Science campaign and aims to give young people a unique insight into the creative science behind a live music event.
Not only can the 5th and 6th year students come along and see a show featuring the bands The Days and Pearl and the Puppets, but five winners from across the country will also get the chance to work behind the scenes at-event in a variety of back-stage roles.
There are five jobs up for grabs – Front-of-House Sound Assistant, Assistant Lighting Technician, Assistant Radio Engineer, Junior Event Photographer and Assistant Monitor Engineer
In the spirit of the Science campaign “Do something creative. Do science”, the young people will experience the thrill of being part of the backstage crew and will see first-hand that studying Science can open the door to a whole range of inspiring careers.
Sound Science takes place on 26 April at City nightclub in Perth and the teenage audience will be brought in from across the country to see the show.
Tickets are free but can only be won via competitions on Bauer Media’s eight Scottish radio stations – Clyde 1, Forth One, Tay FM, MFR, West FM, West Sound FM, Northsound 1 and Radio Borders and also online at www.sound-science.co.uk
The website is packed with information on the show and how youngsters can get their hand on tickets or win one of the jobs. It also carries video interviews with the top professionals in Scotland who will be mentoring the youngsters on the day. From EFX Audio and SM lighting to Bauer Radio engineers, the gig experts talk about their jobs, how they got into their field of work and also give advice to anyone looking to work in concert production.
Siobhán Crampsey of Bauer Radio Events says: “This is a unique project. It’s the Scottish Government giving 5th and 6th year pupils the work experience opportunity of a lifetime! We get enquiries on a daily basis from young people asking how they can be part of our Events team... we always tell them to stay on at school and get qualifications in a range of subjects including science. Sound Science is a real life, live demonstration of science in action. We’ve got two amazing acts and the cream of audio visual technicians in Scotland working on this gig and giving the teenagers the benefit of their vast experience…it’s a fantastic opportunity for them”.
