The Edinburgh Festival Fringe has this year appointed Whitespace to create its campaign for 2009.

Following a two phase competitive tender, the Edinburgh agency has been tasked with handling the campaign to promote this year’s festival.

The project will include the creation of the overall concept and the application across various on and offline material, working closely with the in-house team at the Fringe office.

The Fringe is the largest arts festival in the world and features more performers (18,792) than there were athletes at the Beijing Olympics (10,500). 1.5 Million tickets were sold in 2008, and the Fringe festival generates over £75 Million for the Scottish Economy annually.

Iain Valentine, creative director at Whitespace, commented: “I entered the Fringe poster competition every year when I was at school and never won, so now in a strange way I feel those hours spent were not wasted, we look forward to helping develop a memorable Fringe for the right reasons “
