The Union creates new STV Bingo ads

The Union creates new STV Bingo adsThe Union creates new STV Bingo ads

Scottish Television has launched its new online bingo service, bingomood.com, which is to be supported by a new TV advertising campaign by The Union.

The ‘quirky’ campaign features people in a gym class, singing and dancing to ‘I’m in the Mood for Bingo’, a version of The Nolan Sisters’ classic ‘I'm in the Mood for Dancing’.

The campaign was created by The Union and produced by STV Creative, and will initially include 40 and 20 second executions.

Alistair Brown, head of new media at STV, said: “Online growth is a big priority for us in 2009 and bingomood.com is our latest exciting venture. These creative new ads capture the fun, social aspect of playing bingo online, and I hope they will encourage bingo fans from across Scotland to try their luck on bingomood.com.”

Last month STV launched online recruitment service stvjobs.com, which is the first phase in the development of a new online classified business from STV. The launch was supported by an advertising campaign on-screen and on outdoor sites across Scotland.

STV Bingo will continue to run also.

Well, I think we all know how to get your ad 'noticed' following the creative spat above. Was it all a big PR spin?

As reviewed by Alan Harvey in the Drum for the last piece of rubbish from STV.

THE UNION
STV Recruitment TV ads
'Strange one this. I get the group of men and women representing different industries, but what has a version of the New Zealand ‘Haka’ got to do with job seeking? Unless being able to sing and dance is a CV requirement in Scotland. I’m left like the guy at the end of the commercial, looking on in disbelief.'

In fact if you can sing and dance then it appears its STV bingo for you. If an Agency puts its work up for review or PR's its launch then it has to accept criticism or praise. If it can't don't put out a press release. At least Gareth Howells has the guts to put forward his opinion and his name. All the sniping back is done anonymously.

Cheers

Has Tron Smith killed off traditional advertising?
Are we lucky he's leaving?

Has he left this jobbie on the doorstep of advertising on purpose?

set fire to it & ran off to Digital?

The scamp.

Another tacky ad for a tacky product from a tacky channel. Scotland, home of the brave? No longer within television it would seem.

If you're going to slag something off, at least put your name up with your comment! It's easy to be brave or should that be 'gutless' when you're posting anonymously.

I don't think it is about being brave or gutless, it's about maintaining the ability to post a personal opinion. The industry is very small and opinions are seldom welcome, as we all know. Surely this is why The Drum - a leader in industry comms - developed its own comments section to include an anonymity feature? The Union do some great work. I 'personally' don't think this works - simple as that. I do, however, agree with your implied sentiment that bitching for the sake of a dig against a rival agency is petty.

Is this the same group of talented people that did the haka on a rooftop looking for jobs? If so people we have one of the greatest Scottish campaign ideas of all time.

Thanks, you're right the anonymous feature was built in for a reason and that was to allow people to give feedback and any more insight into a story without fear of a comeback from their bosses. Slagging stuff off for the sake of it isn't helpful.

But the point is taken, it is a small industry and everyone knows everyone.

Hmmm. I notice there were no comments of praise – anonymous or otherwise – for The Union after the Drum's article about their 8-gold haul at last year's Roses awards. http://tinyurl.com/cospjt

If people were really being objective, and didn't just have an axe to grind, they'd be as free with their compliments as their abuse.

Right, now let's all sit cross-legged on the grass, hold hands and sing something from the Cat Stevens songbook. And yes, that includes YOU, Howells.

Chris
Awards do not define agencies anymore. We all know how to play the game and win them. So the fact the Union only have one nomination this year does not reflect on their creative ability anymore than winning 8 golds. However, two recent STV ads show an alarming lack of craft, execution and idea in my opinion. Anyway it's probably not their fault.

Howells has gone strangely quiet. The grown ups must have taken away his computer.

Are you the same anonymous as I am? Or are we one and the same? I don't even remember typing this. Imposter!

I think Shinton's made Howells sit on the naughty step.
