The Drum has learned that BJL has promoted Tom Richards and Pete Bastiman to co-creative directors of the agency while Billy Mawhinney is to become executive creative director.
Mawhinney announced the changes to the agency today and said that he would be looking to support Richards and Bastiman in their new roles while allowing him to do more for the agency ‘on a broader front’.
Mawhinney has headed up the creative department of BJL since March last year when he moved from Leo Burnett. He quickly recruited Richards and Bastiman from TBWA\Manchester and earmarked them both to head up the department in the future.
“I love Pete and Tom and know they have every quality necessary to succeed as creative directors," Mawhinney said. "They are talented, tenacious and trustworthy and I look forward to helping them achieve all their ambitions at BJL."
Both have been appointed to the board alongside the agency's planning director Lisa Tomlinson and group account director Amanda Sankey.

Good for them. Tom has to be one of the best Art Directors around.
Tom needs a pay rise - then he can afford a new shirt - his is faded, unlike like Petes
Great news for all three. Maybe Pete has finally found somewhere to lay down some roots. Best of British them all.
Those shirts look a bit Brokeback Mountain Lads.
Very chuffed for them Both. Good vision from Mr Mahwinney.
The Lumberjack shirts are really not floating my boat though. Saying that. I'm not gay.
Well done lads & I'll buy you drinks soon!
It says a lot for Pete and Tom that we're all scratching our collective heads for something spiteful and damning to say, but the best we can do is say that their shirts have vaguely homoerotic overtones. (Which many would take as a compliment, anyway.)
That said, you do rather suspect they were naked from the waist down when the shot was taken.
Here here Chris.
If I was in Manchester. I'd be worried. Ad wise.
Take Mr Mawhinney's Corporate Amex away now.
