TH_NK enters consultation process for six

TH_NK enters consultation process for six TH_NK enters consultation process for six

'Due to the prevailing economic climate’ the Newcastle office of digital agency TH_NK has entered a consultation process which may lead to redundancies for six of its team.

It is thought that 60 members of staff work out of Newcastle with most of them not being affected by the process while the London office remains completely unaffected as well.

A spokesperson for TH_NK confirmed that the process was underway: “Naturally the board are very saddened by the need to take this step given the impact that is likely to have on those concerned, but clearly TH_NK is not immune from the pressures that many businesses in the UK and further are feeling at the present time.

“We have seen particularly tough trading conditions within the software development area of the business where the current consultancy process to which we refer is focussed. However this contracts with quite strong demand, in the context of the current economic environment, within the creative areas of the business.”

The spokesperson continued to say that while it had been ‘a challenging year’ for the agency, the medium term business pipeline provided ‘reason for some optimism’.

“In the short term the business continues to be well placed to provide the best possible service to its existing client base whilst retaining the ability to pitch for, win and deliver profitable business. Nevertheless, the board remains focussed on maintaining a tight control on costs whilst these uncertain times continue,” they concluded.

Meanwhile the agency was appointed last month by One North East following a competitive pitch to explore new social media channels which are relevant to the region’s key industries, as well as looking at the ways that other organisations are using social networks to benefit their business.

The insight the agency gains through its resulting workshops and research activities will be combined with its existing experience to develop a new social media strategy which will raise the North East’s profile across the Web and promote the region as a place to live and work.

Is this news? The possibility that 6 people may go from an agency?

There are Leeds agencies that have lost double that figure without it getting a mention - the answer might be for TH_NK to advertise in The Drum and then they can be sure the story will go away!

Re, anonymous comment, what a stupid thing to say. If agencies in Leeds have managed to keep their redundancies under wraps then good for them, but when a negative story comes out it's better to respond honestly and pro-actively.

Re, Rob Lawson. So what you are saying is that this is just damage control by TH_NK? TH_NK has been losing staff for years, but when they decide to have a "consultation", then everything becomes awesome? Please cut the nonsense, and let's just see it for what it is.

If the Drum was really being investigative, they would explore the real reason behind these constant redundancies!

TH_NK have struggled hugely over the last few years to maintain staff levels as the very structure of the business means that the core development team have no influence as to how it is run. The HR department also does not appear to be able to deal with this situation.

Whilst this round of redundancies is probably a reflection of the current economy, the business has been heamoraging staff for quite some time and the number of managment roles within TH_NK far outways the number of developers. This can never be a good thing.

I beg you all to please show some sensitivity and respect for the individuals involved here. This article and the ill-informed comments regarding "constant redundancies" and the "heamoraging staff" serve to only add further pressure and upset to a process which is distressing enough.

Showing some sensitivity and respect towards the English language would be nice, too: "heamoraging "?!
