Trinity Mirror has announced that Bill Steven is to become the managing director for its Scottish regional titles.

Steven, who has been at the company for 26 years, currently heads up the company’s local newspaper division Scottish and Universal Newspapers which encompasses 30 publications including the Ayrshire Post.

Most recently Steven has worked as commercial director where he oversaw all of the group's titles across west central Scotland.

Steven replaces Alex Cargill who left the company last December having taken early retirement after 34 years.

"Naturally I am delighted to have been appointed managing director, particularly at such a crucial stage in the company's development.

"The entire newspaper industry is facing challenging times but I am confident that we in S&UN are in good shape for the future, " Steven commented.
