Newcastle based digital media and film company Mere Mortals has announced the appointment of Helen Spencer as its director of creative media.

Spencer, an award winning TV director who has worked with John Travolta and Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber on BBC1 light entertainment programme Your Country Needs You, is already in talks with television networks in a bid to showcase the agency’s services.

Spencer explained: “I’ve been increasingly interested in multimedia and Mere Mortals embraces the whole winning package of TV, films, games and web.

“I’m aiming to take the company into new fields of work, by taking advantage of the unique range of talent available here. We’re already offering clients fully integrated digital media services but with the current pace of change there’s new and exciting opportunities arising every day.

“Working all over the world, I’ve always kept my base as the North East. It’s fantastic to see Mere Mortals working with the same ideals; you can still be successful without uprooting from your hometown.”

She was approached by the agency in December at THEBIGPIX event.

Steve Walmsley, managing director of Mere Mortals, said: “With a career as impressive as Helen’s, we knew that she would become an integral part of the Mere Mortals team. We’ve always aimed to be at the forefront of our industry and Helen’s appointment will ensure that we continue to offer clients cutting-edge creative solutions.”
