Subway denies media review speculation

Subway denies media review speculationSubway denies media review speculation

Subway has denied any speculation that, following the appointment of McCann Erickson to its advertising account, it is set to review its media business.

Speculation has suggested that the Subway media buying account, held by MediaCom Scotland, might also be set to move to McCann Erickson, which boasts a large planning and buying division, as part of the deal that saw the £10m account move from Glasgow-based ad agency Frame.

A spokesperson for Subway has rubbished the speculation though, and said: "I can state that the media buying account for Subway is not set for review."

Meanwhile, David Shearer, managing director of MediaCom Scotland told The Drum that he was a part of the panel which oversaw the pitch process which involved McCann Network, Frame, Iris and Krow and that the media buying was not a factor in the deal. He also said that he could understand the thinking behind such speculation, but that it was untrue.

Shearer went onto praise the work undertaken by Frame: “Frame have been a part of the Subway family over the years and MediaCom Scotland has enjoyed working with the agency on it and it did a good job but sometimes clients reach a situation where they have to move on. It’s always difficult to do so when an agency and client have worked together for so long but there just comes a time when the relationship comes to an end and the view seemed to be that McCann’s were best placed to help the client move to a new place.”

Interesting development

David's going to be mighty popular with the chaps at Frame.

I'd have body-swerved that one...
