The Scottish office of design consultancy Thomas Matthews has been appointed to design the signage, wayfinding and interpretation for the 2014 Commonwealth Games athletes village.

The consultancy will work with developer David Langdon and architect firm RMJM as part of the City Legacy team which will plan and design champion for the project.

Having won the work, the agency has said that it looks to grow its Scottish operation which is currently headed up by design director Mark Beever.

The athlete’s village will include 700 homes built in Dalmarnock in the East End of Glasgow which will be expanded by another 765 homes being built after the games, as well as the introduction of an urban beach and supervised play areas.

The Drum and the Marketing Industry Network are currently working alongside the 2014 Games Organising committee to find a design agency to create the official identity for the Games, while it is also looking for an agency to work on the vision for the handover during the closing ceremony in Dehli in 2010.

Update: The Drum was contacted and informed that an agency had not yet been appointed.
