Redundancy consultation at TBWA\Manchester after ghd moves to London

TBWA\Manchester has entered into a redundancy consultation process involving staff who worked on the ghd account following its move to London.

It is thought that about half a dozen employees at the agency are involved in the process, which is understood to come to an end soon.

Fergus McCallum, CEO for TBWA\Manchester, said: "We are now re-organising following the movement of the ghd account and I can confirm that, as a result, we are unfortunately in a redundancy consultation process.

"We have acted quickly in order to minimise the number of posts at risk and as a result we expect the outcome to result in a small reduction in staff numbers."

The redundancy process follows ghd moving its advertising account to Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R at the end of June, following a pitch which TBWA\Manchester declined to be involved with.

London agencies MCBD, Grey and Atelier made up the pitch list while Fallon was also involved in the early stages.

Been through it and it's horrible. Good luck to all those possibly affected and remember that these things often work out for the best.

wtf!? This is about the third round of redundancies for TBWA this year. Is there anyone actually left to get rid of?

Surprised this is only happening now since they declined the pitch - it's not as if it was a shock to loose the pitch if you didn't enter the process in the first place

Also surprised this happened following theire decision to not pitch for the ghd work. All the best to those involved.

Oh yeah, 3 months at a london agency who doesn't want you there, then being laid off. Great idea.

You'd think they would have tried to keep ghd if losing it meant losing jobs too. Not very fair on those involved - I wonder if they were consulted on the decision not to repitch? Legally there is a responsibility to make efforts to look after the interests of your employees.

Of course they knew they weren't going to retain it. No one declines to pitch unless they've been told they won't win. Good for them

There's obviously no time like a credit crunch to leave behind cheap(er) manchester costs and head to the big smoke when your based in leeds. 130 quid items that make your hair a bit straighter must sell well in a recession.

TBWA didn't take the brand anywhere; they simply trod water on Propaganda's old strategy and churned out a thin pastiche of their creative.

It's real shame for all those involved but with the work they put out it was inevitable.

Not a brand I'd ever want to work on again. Client stangles any creativity out of itself. I suspect the new agency won't put up with that sort of behaviour though.
