Bauer Media has announced that Gary Robinson has been appointed station director, Radio Tay, based in Dundee.

This will be a return to Tay for Robinson, who worked at the station for ten years in a number of roles, including commercial producer and presenter, prior to moving in 2000 to other Bauer Radio Network stations in England and Northern Ireland.

Most recently, he has been MD, Kerrang! Bauer’s rock station in the Midlands, which won the Sony Station of the Year 2009, in May.

Graham Bryce, MD Radio, Scotland, said: “Gary’s combination of extensive station management experience and local and Scotland market knowledge made him the stand-out candidate for this senior broadcasting role. With a strong creative/production background, I am sure he will quickly make a significant contribution to our business and to further success at Tay on air and on line.”

The appointment follows former MD Ally Ballingall’s move to oversee the output for programming for the group's five AM stations in Scotland.

Gary Robinson, commented: “I am looking forward to leading the hugely talented team at Radio Tay and returning to Dundee. Tay has a rich journalistic and programming heritage and my immediate focus will be to build on the current success of the station across all platforms. We are part of the fabric of the community and I’ll be exploring ways to deepen our commercial partnerships and deliver new and exciting ways to engage with our listeners.”

On an interim basis, Steve King, group programming director, Big City Network, will add Kerang! to his current responsibilities.
