Johnston Press denies talk of Scotsman saleJohnston Press denies talk of Scotsman sale

Publisher Johnston Press has issued a denial that it is set to sell some of its titles including The Scotsman to a business consortium.

Reports in the press over the weekend suggested that Martin Gilbert, chief executive of Aberdeen Asset Management; financer Ben Thomson, and property developer Mark Shaw were set to buy The Scotsman, Scotland on Sunday and the Edinburgh Evening News.

Johnston Press has moved to deny the reports which follow its decision to abandon the sale of its Irish titles earlier this year.

A spokesman for Johnston Press, said: Having terminated discussions on the Irish disposal process some montbs ago there are no further plans underway.”

It has also been speculated that rival Scottish published DC Thomson is interested in purchasing The Scotsman.

Johnston Press will release its interim results this Friday.
