TheAgency to challenge efficient recycling habits

In a bid to increase the number of households recycling energy efficient light bulbs, Recolight has appointed TheAgency to a seven figure campaign to change Britain’s recycling habits.

TheAgency has been tasked with creating a campaign to raise awareness of the potential quantity of mercury entering landfill when energy efficient bulbs are not recycled. This will include a micro website, a viral film, a home user pack, poster advertising and point of sale material.

Currently, less than 10 per cent of UK households recycle energy efficient light bulbs. Recolight aims to improve that figure to 60 per cent by 2014.

Saman Mansourpour, a partner at TheAgency said:  “Our intention is to address the lack of awareness of the mercury content in energy efficient light bulbs, without discouraging consumers from buying them, as they are the future, when disposed of responsibly. We are confident our campaign will resonate in people’s minds. With 130 million energy efficient light bulbs purchased last year alone it is a critical issue which needs to be addressed.”

Good luck! Sounds tricky, getting cut thru on the recycling front isn't easy. Mercury in your lightbulbs?!

Typical government beaurocracy, tell us to save energy and buy energy efficient light bulbs, then tell us they contain mercury and will poison the land. Gets me so mad!!

It's a conspiracy by the manufacturers.

I saw the TV coverage for this at the weekend. They're pulling standard light bulbs off the shelves and making them illegal to sell. Typical government legislation, offering us no choice and then poisoning us.

They won't poison us if we recycle them!
