A new viral film has been created by Merle for the Advocates for Animals’ Seals Appeal.
The viral has been created to raise awareness of the plight of Seals in Scottish waters where they are still being shot by fishermen.
The commercial will run online and has been created to deliberately homage the animated film ‘Watership Down’.
The film tells the true story of the brutal shooting of a pregnant seal off the West Coast of Scotland.
The campaign was written by Merle’s creative directors John Dean and Stuart Anderson, while the animation was by Selina Wagner from Blobina Animations.
Daniel Healy Cask Productions produced the viral which features a voiceover by Richard Briers who played the character Fiver in the original 1978 movie.

Lovely animation style and some beautiful imagery (the scene with the blood on the beach is gorgeous) but unfortunately, IMHO, it doesn't come close to capturing the anguish and distress that some of the scenes from Watership Down did – therefore not creating an emotional need to act and stop the horrible act of shooting seals. I don't feel compelled to pass this on to others and that is the "be all and end all" of a viral campaign.

Class. I'll pass it on, but not because I've analysed the animation in this two minute or so viral to that of a fully animated movie. But because I didn't know fishermen were shooting seals and this small film has made me think that it should be stopped. Its simplicity and story telling, rather than distress and anguish, are what do it for me.

I promised I would promote the animator's work as she was kind enough to do this for a 'charity' budget.

I am shooting a few foxes tonight, great fun - don't see many seals though but I will keep my eyes open. Nice animation!!

Nice work, well done guys. And I like the cuddly innocence of Richard Briers mixed with the serious message.
Good animation, and for once, something called viral that will probably get passed on.

Good work - feeling pretty sorry for Salina the Seal though, first she is born in Scotland and latterly gets shot by fisherman with guns would you believe.
Message to Scottish fisherman - If you want to 'take out' seals in Scotland use harpoons like everyone else.
They're never gonna survive, unless... we get a little crazy
Arff Arff. That's my seal of approval.
