Design student Hayley Robertson has won the 2009 annual poster competition organised by the Levy McCallum ad agency and Glasgow Metropolitan College's design faculty.

All final year design students at Glasgow Met were invited to create a poster for iconic Scottish chocolate biscuit brand, Tunnock’s Caramel Wafers.

Robertson took as her theme the fact that Tunnock’s have never reduced the size of the Caramel Wafer in over 50 years.

Boyd Tunnock, managing director of the company founded by his grandfather 119 years ago, (pictured with Robertson) said that the poster effectively promoted a product which gives employment to over 600 people in Scotland.  

The student won a cash prize and two weeks working within the Levy McCallum studio.

post modernist society - nothing is really truly original these days if we are going to get all clever about it and yes you are being mean spirited plus it's nice to see some good news rather than another 'agency makes redundancy' story.

I remember from my student days how welcome the odd 'project for cash' was. Well done to Hayley and I hope she enjoys her work experience.

However I just don't get the poster...Almost actual size? If the concept is that Tunnock's haven't reduced the size of their biscuit since its creation then this doesn't say it.

Harsh? Maybe, but there's an idea there that needs developed so why not spend some of the two weeks work experience developing it with Levy's?

Well done to Hayley for getting an ad made at such an early stage in her career - something I failed to do.

I do think if Levy McCallum intended to use the story for PR purposes, knowing it would attract comment, they should have put some energy and expertise into making it as good as possible.

This annual competition is clearly designed to make a bit of noise for LM as well as their client. In return, it should be incumbent upon them to 'creative direct'.

Or maybe they did....

well done Haley; the truth of the matter is that your work is as good, if not better than, the lot of the crap that's produced by the people commenting here.
