D8 has designed the creative campaign material for BBC Radio 3's annual festival of ideas, Free Thinking.

The Festival, which ran from 23-25 October at The Sage, Gateshead, explored the big ideas of our time with today's leading thinkers, artists, scientists and writers such as Dan Cruickshank, William Orbit and Tanya Byron. The speakers also included David Miliband
and Ken Livingstone.

D8's work included the design of the festival brochure, all venue branding, floor vinyl, interactive ideas panels, promotional items, plasma content and advertising, all of which helped the BBC to create a space that encouraged ideas and conversation surrounding the Festival in a creative environment.

Exactly what struck me...

...what's with the inconsistent starbursts? And type colour too.

Hmm.

In answer to 17:11's the consistency of the star-burst question: it actually came in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, as a way to reflect the concept of different ideas and opinions which the Festival was based around.

Regarding 21:17's type colour query: I'm guessing you're referring to the 'Thinking' on the floor logotype being black, whereas it's white on the wall's Gobo projection? That was a technical issue raised by the venue, we were informed that black doesn't project well and would be lost within the red background. A completely reversed option was their recommendation.

The entire project will be on D8's site shortly, which should give a more complete idea of the event.

Cool, thanks for resolving these questions sans the same 'witty' sarcasm adopted by James! (clearly the lowest form of intelligence in this instance)
Interested to hear the background and thinking behind the broken stories often found on these news forums, so look forward to reading the full synopsis on your site.

anon @ 17;11: "...sold their sole..."

Winning 2 prestigous clients & projects - both from south of the border; I would simply say well done & congratualtions. Scotland would be a better place if there were more people like D8 and less people like you.

Where would the world be if everything was consistent? A little bit bleak I think. Nice one D8, you can never go wrong with a starburst. I'm a big fan of the Val D'oro chip shop window - a masterclass in the art of the starburst, and great use of dayglo.

Valuable contribution there, 12:06.

As an industry we should be celebrating the success of other agencies, if only as an indication of things picking up. Over the last year how many agencies have folded, let people go or cut pay? Too many. Actually, perhaps those are the stories you get excited about?

12;06 - is that really your best effort. Grow up. The whole point of this site is to highlight stories, showcase work, provide features. If it does not interest you then just go back to your Hello / Nuts / Daily Spot web sites...
