Leicester-based Rock Kitchen Harris launched the national crime mapping system for the National Policing Improvement Agency just one week ago and already it has received3.6 million views.

Designed and produced by the web team at RKH, CrimeMapper received just under half a million hits on its home page and 3.6 million views on crime information across England and Wales in just one week.

The design enables visitors to see details of criminal activity in any part of their locality, as well as their local policing team officers and contact details. Other specific information such as the number of crimes committed, trends and the kind of crimes most prevalent in any area are available through maps, graphs and reports.

Three members of RKH’s website development team director David Moore, senior web developer Paul Sculthorpe and web developer Leon Bayliss began working on the project in September last year, after being initially chosen by 30 police forces to develop the crime mapping system for their local sites. Later this year, RKH was tasked to develop a national site, which is now used by all 43 UK police forces.

Paul Sculthorpe said: “We have been overwhelmed with how popular the website has been since it launched last Tuesday. We aimed to keep the design as simple as possible, making it accessible to the public and easy to understand. Judging by its popularity so far, we hope this has been achieved.”

Would you turn out your pockets, please? Some light-fingered scamp appears to have nicked Scotland.
