Randak works with Scorsese on The Red Shoes re-release
Design / UK
It is not often that a Scottish design company is art directed by one of the world’s greatest film directors, but for the re-release of the restored and remastered ‘The Red Shoes’ Randak found itself working with legendary director Martin Scorsese.
Working with client Park Circus Films, Glasgow-based Randak has also been creating designs for the re-issue of the remastered ‘The Godfather’ and the controversial semi documentary film ‘Inferno’ starring Romy Schneider.
Said Charles Randak: "Our design work was being scrutinised at every stage by Martin Scorsese. He takes a huge interest in the film [The Red Shoes] describing it as 'a vision that has never really been matched - truly the most beautiful Technicolour film ever made'.
"As Scorsese supervised all the restoration work on the film he was equally involved when it came to our work on the design and marketing literature. We used a great deal of the original source material but, as in the remastered movie itself, we had to pay due respect to the provenance of the known visuals but equally had to ‘remaster’ them to match the ‘refreshed’ qualities of the movie itself.
"For anyone who has not seen the film, it comes as a surprise when you see the sheer imagery and cinematography in the work – no surprise at all that Mr Scorsese puts it at the top of his list.’’
