Retailer Smyths Toys is running a 'Toy Scrappage Scheme' designed by Underdog as it looks to attract new customers to its superstores across the UK.
In the same way the Government's Car Scrappage Scheme invites drivers to trade old motors for discounts on new ones, Smyths' offer encourages customers to bring old, unwanted or even broken toys into its stores to receive discounts on hundreds of brand new ones.
Underdog's Doug Laird said: "While people's belts are still tight in the run up to Christmas, The Toy Scrappage Scheme draws attention the discounts available at Smyths.
"The promotion really engages and, rather than just communicating, motivates people to act because they really can get a good discount for that old Kerplunk with the marbles missing under the bed."

This is a great idea. One of the best on here in a long time. Really hope it's successful as I can see it lasting a lot longer than 10 days. Kids will love it, especially this time of year.
No doubt other retailers will follow, but Smyth's should go all out and make it their own. Get it into schools. What a great project it would make - Teachers could get the children to bring in their old toys and recycle them for Smyth's vouchers etc.
Love it. Hats off to Underdog.
