An animated tribute has been produced by Propaganda on behalf of The Sophie Foundation which retells the story of the death of Sophie Lancaster.
The animated film retells the tale of Sophie who was beaten to death as her boyfriend was also attacked due to the way they looked.
As a result, the foundation which acts in her name approached Propaganda to help convey its message against prejudice.
Mark Williams, creative director at Propaganda devised the video in collaboration with Illamasqua which funded the film, British band Portishead, French animator Fursy Teyssier and MTV.
The video will be launched when it is projected on an ongoing loop in Manchester’s Cathedral Gardens from tonight, on what should have been Sophie’s 23rd birthday.
Sylvia Lancaster, Sophie's mother, commented: “The film is a chilling and dramatic reminder of how prejudice, hatred and intolerance can destroy so many lives – Propaganda has nailed what we are trying to achieve perfectly, producing something that is beautiful and impactful. Sophie would have adored it”.
Mark Williams, creative director, Propaganda explained: “Impact was our main objective as well as creating a film that highlighted the effect ignorance and violence can have on individuals lives. The decision to use such a moving track brings the film to life and creates a rush of emotion felt by all. We have worked with some fantastic people to make this happen, and I would like to thank all those who have contributed to help such an important cause.”
To coincide with this, Propaganda has secured screenings for the Sophie film on MTV, from 26 November, for two weeks.
Make-up brand, Illamasqua has also committed itself to changing attitudes towards subcultures and has been a supporter of the Sophie Lancaster Foundation since it launched last November.

I'm just glad to see everyone admiring it, even the anons. Proof, if we ever needed it, that the "forum" can be kind and positive when work deserves it.

I can tell you that £3 is the entire profit Illamasqua make from the pencil sales.
From this Sophie's mum Sylvia was handed a £5000 cheque last night from Illamasqua for the foundations work. In addition to this Illamasqua has donated the equivalent of what was Sylvia's annual salary so she could give up her job and devote her time fully to setting up the foundation.
Charities need brands to work closely with them on things like this. Just like we set up years ago the link between ghd and breakthrough breast cancer which went on to raise £500k+ , and yes it relied on people buying a styling iron.

I suspect that, given your comment, you've already donated most of your wages to The Sophie Foundation, otherwise, how else would you have the balls to COMPLAIN about a business giving money to a good cause? I'm guessing that you also complain bitterly that not ALL the cost of your Veneziana pizza at Pizza Express goes directly to stopping Venice sink.

Got a real Miyazaki feel about it. The best single piece of charitable marketing I've seen in years. I'm struggling to think of anything better actually.
To recreate this vile and terrible incedent, however brilliant, seems somehow in poor taste. I found the whole thing although very powerful and very clever rather depressing.
