Town unveils 'sperm' logo

Town unveils 'sperm' logo

The Devon town of Ilfracombe has reinvented itself with a new image and logo designed to help attract more high spending visitors to the town.

Tessa Martin of Fresh Bread marketing consultancy who is behind the new logo said of it: "The new logo, with its idiosyncratic 'swirl' above the 'i' indicates intrigue, mystery and drama expressed with a spot of humour and fun too. It also reflects the twists and turns of the landscape and might conjure up thoughts of the seaside, sea, an ice-cream, the harbour and fish."

Unfortunately for the town, which already suffers the notoriety of the second highest teenage pregnancy rate in the county, critics have argued the logo looks like sperm.

Bloggers have had a field day with the similarities, some suggesting the town markets itself ‘most fertile town in England’, while others proposing it renames itself ‘Ilfracum’.

Martin, in reply to the critics, said: "If some see a sperm so be it, a sperm represents life and i think that is a positive thing. There is real energy, and vibrancy in the town now - it is full of life, with its bustling harbour, fabulous restaurants, theatre and it offers the full coastal experience for all the family - Take another look, you may be surprised!"

If you're going to embrace the sperm, then maybe re-write the strapline to 'Ilfracombe - teeming with life' or er...something like that.

The marketing design consultancy appears to be excellent at talking w@nk as well as drawing it.

Love the phallic ice-cream cone too, and the breast/nipple-esque hill cottage thing.

I won't think of Mr Whippy in the same way again, ever.

I like the strapline though. Curiously charming.

How did nobody spot this n any of the meetings? it never ceases to amaze me the way everyone convinces themselves that something's good, in a kind of weird 'groupthink', and then as soon as joe public sees it, they say "Haha, it looks like jizz!" No amount of post rationalisation can save this logo. I give it six months.

I this looks like the BBCs apprentice style attempt at some logo/poster/marketing stuff. Made me giggle and I love the phallic cone one the breast, sorry best.
