One of only two French macaron makers in the UK, Bougie Macaron has been branded by Glasgow design agency Freight.
Designed by Freight’s Stephen Kelman and illustrated by designer Derick Carss, the branding has been designed to reference classic typography of the 20s and 30s, using letterpress printing to emphasise its authenticity.
The company has been created by French chef Jean Nedelec who has worked alongside Marco Pierre White at London restaurant, The Ivy before spending a year developing his macaron recipe.
As well as designing the branding and stationery, Freight has created packaging labelling and a simple website.
Adrian Searle, director at Freight, explained: “Macarons are delicious French almond-based biscuits and nothing to do with Macaroons we Scots know. Many people who have visited France will recognise them for their bright colours and pleasing oval shape.
“Macarons have revered status in France and Bougie hopes to encourage the British to fall in love with this delicious delicacy. We created a design that references the product’s heritage, which goes back to the eighteenth century, and its quintessential Frenchness.”
“Quality is at the heart of the brand,” said Stephen Kelman. “We used GF Smith Colorplan Duplex for the business stationery and letterpress by the Glasgow Press for the printing. The debossing effect gives a real sense of the value of the product.”
