BBC Scotland denies central belt bias in news reportingBBC Scotland denies central belt bias in news reporting

Atholl Duncan, head of news for BBC Scotland has denied claims of a ‘Central Belt bias’ in the reporting of Scottish news by the corporation.

The SNP’s MSP for Aberdeen North Brian Adam has claimed that the BBC focuses on reporting news in the central belt, which was ‘not doing justice’ to its reporting of news across other areas of the country.

Adam has written to the BBC Trust and has suggested that its creates regional opt-outs from its main news programme Reporting Scotland.

Duncan said that there were no plans to create such ‘opt outs’ similar to those used by STV’s main news programme but admitted that it did plan to increase its regional content in the new year.
